A MAN is fighting for life in hospital and a young girl has been hurt after their bicycles and a car collided at Murray Bridge.

The 28-year-old man from Murray Bridge and a young girl, believed to be his daughter, were riding along Maurice Rd when the smash occured just before 4.30pm on Monday.

Both riders were struck by the car.

The man was flown by emergency helicopter to Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition while the girl was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Major Crash investigators are attending the scene to examine the circumstances of the crash.

One Maurice Rd resident, who did not wish to be named, said a neighbour was one of the first on the scene.

“This person just told me that he was collecting his bin and he heard a thud so...he ran up there,” he said.

“He said that the girl wasn’t hurt very badly but the fella was in and out of consciousness so he’s in a bad way.

“(The neighbour) helped administer CPR. I hope everyone is okay.”

Another neighbour Heidi Just, 73, believed the man and girl were regular bike riders along the thoroughfare.

“I’m sure it’s the same (father and daughter) because they come every day pretty well,” she said.

“I hope he makes it. It’s horrible.”

While the cause of the crash was yet to be determined, Ms Just said the road was a hoon hotspot.

“I’ve been waiting for (an accident) because there is high speed people here,” she said.

Road closures are in place on Maurice Rd, near Bywaters Rd.

Police ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.

It followed the death of Caleb Scott, 14, who was riding his bike when hit by a truck at Whyalla Norrie on Friday.
