A BURST water main is threatening businesses, causing traffic delays on Henley Beach Rd and has left more than 30 houses without water.
The water main burst on Henley Beach Rd at Lockleys just after 2pm, sending water cascading down the street.
By 3pm, the river of water was threatening nearby businesses.
Rhonda from Brunch on Henley was forced to build barricades from dirt taken from the backyard to stem the tide of the water.
“A customer came into our store and said there was water coming down the street towards the shop,” Rhonda said.
“It’s about five metres wide down the street and they have had to close off two lanes of traffic.
“All the drains have been blocked by leaves so we had to put up barricades to stop it getting in the shop.
“SA Water are here now and pumping the water but I don’t think its going to subside anytime soon.”
Repairs continued into the evening, with one lane of Henley Beach Rd opening each way about 8.30pm as repairs continued.
“Around 32 customers are temporarily without mains supplied water this afternoon and our community support team are on site speaking to impacted customers and providing an alternate supply of drinking water,” an SA Water spokeswoman said.
“The incident was reported at around 1.50pm, with a network technician arriving on site within 45 minutes.
“We understand water main leaks and breaks can be inconvenient and thank people for their patience as we complete repairs as quickly and safely as possible.”
