THE mother of Bra Boys surf gangster Cade Dallas told his widow “the business is mine” after he died and left behind a $30 million clothing empire, a court has heard.

On Wednesday, Veny Amelia told the Supreme Court that her mother-in-law, Kerrie Dallas, had cut her out of the decision-making in the wake of her husband’s 2012 death.

She said she was not consulted about his death certificate nor his cremation — to which she objected, because he had converted to Islam.

Ms Amelia said Mrs Dallas sought no input from her on how Cade’s lucrative assets would be divided between their son, Keanu, and his half-brother Zandon.

“Kerrie said the money in Cade’s account would be divided for Keanu and Zandon, that his land would be sold and divided between them,” she said.

“She told me the business would be sold and divided into three, including her, and said she would be running the business while it was going to be sold.

“Kerrie said to me ‘the business is mine, Cade gave the business to me’.”

Ms Amelia and her son, who live in Adelaide, are suing Mrs Dallas over Cade’s estate and Balinese clothing business, called “Somewhere”.

She claims Cade’s will — signed with a smiley face — instructs his fortune be used to benefit his son, but that Mrs Dallas is using it and running the business to benefit herself.

However, Mrs Dallas says Ms Amelia has subjected her to years of baseless and “scandalous” accusations and that, under Indonesian law, Keanu cannot inherit anything until he is an adult.

On Wednesday, Ms Amelia wept when asked to describe her relationship with Dallas, a member of the infamous surf gang from Maroubra, NSW.

“I will tell you honestly, our relationship was not like other married lives,” she said.

“Cade often went out to the disco, getting drunk, coming home at four (o’clock) in the morning ... I tried to be a good wife, I always welcomed him any time he came home.

“But sometimes I saw him riding his motorbike with other girls, and Keanu would say ‘mummy, mummy, that’s daddy with another woman’.”

Ms Amelia said she chose not to argue with Cade due to the effect it had upon Keanu.

“He had other girlfriends ... I (once) received a phone call from a woman apologising to me that she had been in a relationship with him,” she said.

“She also told me her friend was now in a relationship with Cade.”

Ms Amelia said she and Mrs Dallas met three times after Cade’s death.

“When I asked what was going to happen to Cade’s body ... Kerrie and her husband told me it would be cremated, and I responded ‘why?’,” she said.

“I knew that my husband was a Muslim, but they only shook their heads as if they were giving up on me.”

She said she continued to receive “money for food” — but from the offices of “Somewhere”, not from Mrs Dallas.

That support ended when she and Keanu moved to Adelaide, she said, because the business’ staff were “afraid of Kerrie”.

The trial, before Justice Sam Doyle, continues.
