A mother bashed to death in a horrific random attack at Colonnades Shopping Centre has been farewelled at a funeral service – and her identity can now be made public.
Michelle Stephanie Foster, 36, of Ethelton, was remembered by her grieving partner of 18 years, Ashley Thomas, as a “beautiful mother”.
The identities of Ms Foster and her accused murderer – Jayden Tanee Lowah – can now be revealed after an Adelaide Magistrates Court suppression order expired on Friday.
Ms Foster succumbed to significant head injuries – despite the efforts of a good Samaritan – at the Noarlunga Centre complex just after midnight on Thursday, October 25.
Lowah, 20, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby and charged with murder. He has been remanded in custody to face court again in March 2019.
Mr Thomas told The Advertiser his family would face a long court process but that the outcome would not change his partner’s fate.
He said his family was left with no answers as to how Ms Foster’s trip to see her father had ended in tragedy.
Police have previously said they had not established any links between Ms Foster and Lowah and that the attack was random.
They have, however, ruled out robbery as a motive.
A GoFundMe page – Michelle Foster Family Support Fund – has been established by Ms Foster’s family to help Mr Thomas and the couple’s two young daughters.
“Ashley is an incredibly loving, caring and doting father. He is now the sole parent of two little girls. He has been unable to return to work for the foreseeable future,” the page states.
“He now faces the tremendous task of being the sole financial, physical and emotional provider for his girls as well as taking care of himself.
“The violent attack that caused her death has not only deeply affected family and friends that she leaves behind but also the wider community who are distraught that yet another life has been taken way too soon in such horrifying circumstances.”
