AN actor accused of biting off “large portions” of another man’s ears during a drunken incident at Murray Bridge has pleaded guilty to assault charges.

In the District Court on Friday, Bruce Roland Carter pleaded guilty to one count of intentional causing seriously and one aggravated count of assault.

Carter, 36, of Murray Bridge, had previously denied all responsibility over the incident, which occurred after a car crash on September 17, 2017.

Prosecutors had alleged Cater, who works as an actor, was behind the wheel of the car at the time of impact and that, when a neighbour went to render assistance, he “rushed” him.

They further allege Carter punched the man in the face, put him in a headlock and “bit off large portions of both of the man’s ears” — injuries that required surgery.

On Friday, Mark Norman, for Carter, asked his client’s case be referred to an Aboriginal sentencing conference so that the court could meet with elders and discuss the offending.

Judge Stretton agreed, saying Carter’s victim would also be invited to attend the hearing — which occurs before, but does not take the place of, standard sentencing submissions.

He remanded Carter in custody until June.
