A CHIROPRACTOR has told a family friend he had secretly filmed more than 400 people — including female patients getting undressed — over the past five years, a court has heard.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with 212 counts, including 144 charges of indecent filming and an assault charge.

The assault charge stems from the chiropractor allegedly attacking a woman who discovered a hidden camera in the change room at his practice, which sparked the investigation.

It will be alleged the man had been secretly filming people at his practice from 2012 until this year.

Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal revoked his home detention bail and ordered him into custody, saying the alleged offending was too serious and the prosecution case appeared strong.

Prosecutor Lisa Duong sought his bail to be revoked because authorities did not know the extent of his alleged offending when he was granted bail in August.

He now faced 212 counts, up from the 56 counts in August, she said.

“The application is based on the breadth of offending, him identifying himself as a sex addict ... (and) the risk of reoffending,” she said.

“He has made certain admissions — not to police but to a prosecution witness.

“He described it as a sex addiction. He says it has been going on for four years ... there were more than 400 individuals — more than has been determined by the prosecution at this particular time.”

She said the man had allegedly set up a fixed camera to film women in the change room but on two occasions used a handheld camera to film clients as he massaged them.

Ms Duong also said alleged offending occurred both in his professional life and personal life as he allegedly filmed two of his consensual sexual partners without their knowledge.

But his lawyer, Craig Caldicott, said there had been no change of circumstance to warrant his bail being revoked.

He said his client — who had been banned from practising as a chiropractor — was not a flight risk as he had surrendered his passport and he had not reoffended while on home detention bail.

“If he does stuff up or do something, it puts his mother’s $40,000 at risk,” he said.

“It’ll be next year before we’re in a position to answer the charge.”

The man is yet to plead to any of the charges and will reappear in court in December.
