FIFTEEN SA motorists were caught drug driving on Monday – most of whom were picking up or dropping off children at school or had youngsters in their car, police say.

Patrols carried out 150 drug tests around school zones on Monday morning and afternoon.

More than 1500 motorists were breath-tested for alcohol during the blitz as well.

“While it was pleasing that there were no drink drivers detected, it is concerning that out of the 15 positive drug driving tests, eight were dropping off or picking up children and three drivers had children in the car at the time of testing,” Inspector David Paparella said.

Those who were stopped with children in their car included a 41-year-old Mid North woman with two youngsters in her vehicle, who tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis; a 30-year-old northern suburbs woman who tested positive for cannabis while dropping four children at school and a 24-year-old northern suburbs man, with three children in his car, who tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.

Families SA have been advised of the detections where children were involved and all drivers are expected to face further consequences once forensic testing is completed.

“Police will continue to focus on road safety by actively policing drink and drug driving, especially when students are going to and from our schools,” Inspector Paparella said.
