Liquor lovers are hoping to raise the bar with The Still, a new luxury whisky bar that will be opening in the old Mercury building on Argyle Street.
Lark Distillery hopes to open the new bar later this spring, marking the occasion with several grand opening events and premium whisky tastings.
One particularly memorable feature of the new bar will be a mechanical contraption that can bring down whisky barrels from the ceiling for customers to taste.
Venues manager Niall Maurici said he hoped the new bar would reignite people’s appreciation for local Tassie gin and whiskies.
“It’s taking it up another level. It’s educational, but it’s fun as well, elevating the tasting experience of our customers,” Mr Maurici said.
“We want to tell the entire story of Tasmanian whisky through our brand, but we’re also putting in nearly 150 different spirits in this bar, only a fraction of which will be Lark spirits.”
Mr Maurici said he hoped the new bar would support local producers, who had all taken a massive hit due to the border lockdowns.
