It’s been a case of one and done for GCA2 premiers Lara Cricket Club who have been promoted back up into the first division.
The Cats, who were relegated from GCA1 after the 2023-24 season, had a summer to remember, winning four senior premierships and playing off in the T20 grand final against North Geelong on Australia Day.
Every post-season, a special GCA committee assesses all clubs’ performance – both on and off-field – over a rolling two-year average before considering relegation and promotion.
Points are attained for wins across the regular season and in finals, wicket maintenance and having women on committees, but can lose them for noncompliance, penalised players and slow over rates.
After dipping his toe into coaching for the first time last summer alongside Dan Weigl, Peter Herrick will steer the ship at Bisinella Oval on his own next season.
Meanwhile, Highton have been dropped to division two despite its first grade side playing finals, beaten by 306 runs by Grovedale in week one.
It was a similar story in GCA2, with Murgheboluc dropped to the third division despite its first grade team playing in the grand final against Lara.
The Frogs’ other three senior teams finished on the bottom with two wins between them.
They will be replaced by Alexander Thomson in division two.
Lethbridge, which won back-to-back first grade premierships, has been promoted to division three, ensuring there will be two hard wicket teams in the competition next summer alongside Bannockburn.
The Rosellas took the place of Manifold Heights in GCA3.
Teesdale recorded the lowest score over a two-year rolling average with 29.96 while North Geelong had the best with 82.55.
