Labor Lingiari MP Marion Scrymgour’s son, Richard Maurice Scrymgour charged over alleged Boxing Day assault

The son of a Territory politician has been charged with aggravated assault following an alleged incident on Boxing Day. See why he will spend the next 50 days in a cell.

The son of an Australian Federal politician will spend the next 50 in a Territory cell on remand over allegations he assaulted a person on Boxing Day.

Labor Lingiari MP Marion Scrymgour’s son, Richard Maurice Scrymgour appeared via a prison video link before Darwin Local Court on Monday.

It is alleged the 43-year-old was involved in an aggravated assault on Boxing Day, December 26.

In a brief two-minute hearing before judge Steve Ledek, his lawyer Clancy Dane indicated that Mr Scrymgour intended to fight the allegations.

Mr Dane requested an adjournment to the earliest possible directions hearing date, but did not make an application for bail.

Mr Scrymgour’s matter was adjourned to March 24.

His mother is currently one of only two Territory politicians in the House of Representatives and is also the Chair of the Joint Select Committee on northern Australia.
