Kingborough and Glenorchy will locked horns for a spot in the top four this Saturday

Glenorchy and Kingborough are separated by just over three per cent on the ladder and both coaches know how important this weekend is. See what they said.

The Kingborough and Glenorchy coaches can’t undersell the importance of this weekend’s clash.

Both sides share the same win-loss record with just 3.58 per cent separating them with the Magpies occupying fourth place on the ladder.

On Saturday, the Tigers will travel to take on Glenorchy in a highly anticipated “eight-pointer”.

Tigers coach Trent Baumeler said his side will take plenty of confidence into this week’s match after knocking off Clarence last weekend.

“It sort of lights a bit of a fuse now coming into the back end of the year,” Baumeler said.

“Clarence have only lost to Lauderdale so far and they are a quality opposition, so we will take confidence out of that and launch that into Glenorchy this week which is going to be a massive challenge and a massive game.

“Given we are both equal on points, there is still a fair bit of footy to play as well but obviously the result will be pretty important as it gets someone one game clear in fourth spot.

“They are a really strong ball movement team and use the middle lane of the ground with some really good kickers, we’ll just have to make sure our defensive structure around limiting uncontested marks is in a really good space and that will give us a really good chance to win the game.”

The Tigers have had the wood over the Magpies this season winning both meetings so far.

Magpies coach Josh Arnold said his side is still looking for consistency.

“We’ve been pretty inconsistent and that middle part of the year, which we knew was coming in terms of the byes, was pretty challenging,” Arnold said.

“Playing one week, having the bye, playing the next, the rep footy, having guys in and out of training, its been a challenging time but we are not here to make excuses and we haven’t been good enough.

“We’ve got ourselves in the position we are at the moment and this week is a massive game for us and the Tigers are coming, fresh off a big win against Clarence.

“We know what to expect, it’s going to be a massive game, we didn’t take our opportunities last time we played them and allowed them to dictate terms to us.

“So we have done a bit of work on that this week and we’ll look forward to this week.”

The Magpies and Tigers kick off at 1.30pm on Saturday at the KGV.
