Life just keeps getting better for Darwin’s own Jake Weatherald with another milestone set to fall his way.
The 30-year-old left-handed opener has officially been awarded his maiden call-up to the Australia A squad, and will debut in his hometown.
Back in the DDCC playing for his childhood club Darwin Eagles in the A-grade competition, Weatherald has been priming himself for the occasion for more than a month.
His selection comes off the back of his stellar Sheffield Shield campaign for Tasmania last season in which he topped the overall runs tally.
“We’ve picked a balanced squad which provides a number of options, which we expect will be required over the course of the series,” Chair of selectors George Bailey said in a press release.
“Jake Weatherald, Jason Sangha and Kurtis Patterson have all had dominant Sheffield Shield seasons and earned the opportunity to test themselves against international opposition.
“We’re looking forward to playing an Australia A series in Darwin and experiencing the unique Northern Territory winter climate which allows for a variety of conditions.”
