Workers at a Miami job site erect ‘wall of shame’ board for dog walkers leaving poo bags

Workers at a Gold Coast job site have targeted dog walkers after they erected a ‘wall of shame’ with poo bags pinned next to a personal message. Read what it said.

Don’t get mad, get petty.

It may not be the best life advice, but it certainly seems to be a popular path for some Gold Coast residents who are making an art form out of petty behaviour.

When faced with a neighbourhood grievance, these citizens respond with a bit of sass and cheek rather than being outright rude or nasty … and I’m kind of here for it.

After all, handling a problem with (relative) grace should be appreciated given some of our suburban issues are completely crap.

Yes, literally.

Witness the wall of shame erected outside a construction site in Miami last week.

Featuring one wooden pallet, a couple of 2x4 planks and 12 green bags, the message of the artistic installation simply could not be missed … especially as it was scrawled onto the timber in indelible black marker:

“Stop throwing your dogs s***bags into our jobsite!!! (We know who you are)”

Oops, I forgot to mention that those 12 green bags were chock full of doggy-do, which only served to demonstrate that this was the ultimate doggy-don’t.

Seriously, looking at the size of those bags, the four-legged culprit would not be hard to find … I wouldn’t be surprised if its irresponsible owner was riding astride its back on a saddle.

It’s hard to understand how someone could go to the effort of bagging up that crap, yet they couldn’t be bothered to search out a community bin.

But then, this isn’t the first time that the city’s suburbs have been plagued by such a poo-blem.

Just as the number of dogs is soaring in our city, so too it seems are their special deposits … and it’s given many residents paws.

Last year there were a series of defecation diatribes on community pages as people proclaimed their greatest pet peeve.

“Does anyone know what I can do about this? Some ridiculous person has been leaving their dog poop bags in my hedge for months,” one person wrote, in what can only be described as a s*** post.

This was even accompanied by video of said hedge studded with bags of scooped excrement. While that footage was perfectly passable, it was missing that petty edge.

If you really want to end the problem, you need to get creative – like our mates in Miami.

I feel fairly confident that giant dog will be keeping its droppings to itself from now on.

It’s not just the Gold Coast that loves a petty response, it’s practically an international movement now.

Over in Britain, there are a number of ‘pothole gardeners’ who draw attention to crumbling streets by planting flowers and even elaborate plant worlds in pavement cracks and ditches.

Interestingly, one such gardener said several of the potholes he had planted flowers in had now been fixed, although his local council wasn’t pleased with his workplace health and safety.

In Nottinghamshire, one resident living on a busy road stops cars from speeding down her street by using her hairdryer as a pretend speed gun. Genius.

However, a word of warning … petty can quickly turn to problematic.

Take, for example, the Gold Coast dad who found himself in considerable trouble after a dispute over a noisy tradie.

In May 2022, a tradie began water-blasting a neighbour’s roof when Andrew Skyrme started yelling and swearing at him before trying to turn off the equipment.

Skyrme then argued with the neighbour over their shared fence and when the neighbour came within centimetres of his face, Skyrme hit his neighbour in the head, knocking out his dental bridge and cracking a tooth, which cost $2705 to fix.

Skyrme, whom the court heard was not in good health at the time and sleeping poorly, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, was fined $400 and ordered to pay $2705 restitution.

So, that’s what not to do.

When it comes to being petty, get creative – but keep it legal.

Otherwise you might just end up in the s***.
