Gold Coast police crash appeal – Smith St Off-ramp

A TEENAGE is on the run after she was confronted by a group of people for allegedly stealing from a disabled man.

Police said the disabled man was taking equipment from his car in preparation for a sailing lesson at the Sports House at Varsity Lakes about 11.35am Tuesday.

A teenage girl with a group of other people allegedly stole the man’s mobile phone while his car boot was left open, police said.

It is understood the victim and others who witnessed the incident confronted the teen before she fled the scene.

No arrests have been made and police are continuing their investigation.

Injured paraglider still in hospital after bungled landing – September 20

A PARAGLIDER aged in his 50s is recovering in hospital after a bungled landing in the Gold Coast hinterland on Sunday morning.

The man ran into trouble while trying to land at a spot off Pocket Rd in Numinbah Valley about 10.30am.

He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering from injuries to his chest and arms, as well as suspected spinal injuries, according to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman.

On Monday, it was confirmed the man remained in a stable condition after his admission.

The man was flown to the hospital by a QGAir Rescue 500 helicopter.

It was reported the paraglider reportedly taking part in a solo flight “landed heavily” in the valley.

Critical care paramedics were tasked to the scene after the incident,

Border bust: Man fined $4000 trying to re-enter Qld

September 16: A MAN who tried to re-enter Queensland multiple times on Thursday afternoon eventually grew tired and rammed the border barricades.

His actions have left him with a $4135 fine and multiple charges from police.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said: “A 53-year-old Queensland man was issued a $4135 penalty infringement notice for ‘Fail to comply – Covid-19 Border Direction’, and a traffic infringement notice for ‘stop on footpath’.”

It’s been reported the Queensland man was visiting a friend across the border and was refused entry multiple times when he tried to re-enter into the state.

He ploughed into the border barricades with his semi-trailer.

Gold Coast traffic: Three-vehicle crash at Coomera closes two lanes

September 16: Peak-hour commuters headed to the Gold Coast were warned of significant delays after three vehicles collided on the M1.

The collision, which occurred about 8.40am Wednesday near the Days Rd exit, forced the closure of two lanes of traffic. Congestion was stretching back as far back as Pimpama.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said paramedics assessed two patients of an undisclosed age and gender at the scene.

Paramedics took one patient suffering from neck pain to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Badly injured man trapped after Coast rollover crash

September 14: Paramedics have taken a man to hospital suffering serious injuries after he was cut from a car following a rollover crash in a rural suburb of the Gold Coast.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) tasked five crews to Elevation Dr and Tamborine Oxenford Rd at Wongawallan about 11.05am on Tuesday, a spokesman said.

QFES rescuers who arrived about 11.25am had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free the man aged in his 50s, who was trapped inside after the single-vehicle incident.

His passenger, a male of an undisclosed age, was able to free himself and was placed in the hands of Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.

The man aged in his 50s was treated by paramedics for head, abdominal, pelvic and leg injuries soon after, an ambulance spokeswoman said.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition, with the High Acuity Response Team.

The second male who freed himself was also taken to the hospital in a stable condition, complaining of neck pain.

Coast man snaps power pole in crash

September 12: A GOLD Coast man has snapped a power pole after driving into it on a Palm Beach road.

Police were called to the scene at the intersection of Tahiti Ave and Cairns Ave just before 10am on Sunday following the Currumbin man hitting the power pole.

A Queensland Police spokesman said another car was hit by the man’s vehicle before he ran into the pole and guard rail.

The man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are investigating the incident.

Energex reported close to 1000 customers were without power in the Palm Beach region.

At 1pm 118 customers were still without power in the area.

Cops hunt for Tesla driver after VW hit tree, burst into flames

September 9: Police are investigating a possible road rage incident on the M1 moments before a Volkswagen crashed into a tree and burst into flames on the Gold Coast.

The driver, a 51-year-old Gilston man, suffered serious head, facial and upper body injuries in the northbound crash on the Smith St off-ramp (exit 66) at Gaven on Thursday morning.

But he may have been more badly injured or even killed had a good Samaritan not cut his seatbelt and pulled him free before the fire ignited.

Gold Coast police have released CCTV footage of a blue Tesla as part of the probe into the crash about 7.20am, which resulted in the Gilston man being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Preliminary information was that a gold 2009 Volkswagen Passat had left the roadway and crashed into a tree at speed,” a statement read.

“A passer-by stopped and cut the injured driver’s seatbelt, freeing him, before the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

“Subsequent investigations indicate that the Volkswagen was involved in an incident with a blue Tesla northbound on Nerang Connection Rd Northbound towards the M1, minutes prior. “Both vehicles were then sighted travelling northbound on the M1, then exiting onto the Smith St off-ramp, prior to the crash.

“Witnesses reported observing the driver of the blue Tesla stop at the crash site, open their car door, then close it and drive away.”

Police have appealed for the driver of the Tesla to come forward, or for anyone who may have dashcam footage of either car in the vicinity of Nerang Connection Rd, the M1 northbound between exit 69-exit 66, or the Smith St off-ramp between 7:00am-7:20am.

Car bursts into flames after hitting tree on busy Coast road

Earlier: Emergency services have rushed to help after a car hit a tree and burst into flames on a Gold Coast thoroughfare on Thursday morning.

Queensland Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the single-car crash on the Smith Street Motorway off-ramp northbound just before 7.20am.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated a man aged in his 50s, who suffered facial and suspected spinal injuries a spokeswoman said.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition, with spinal precautions in place. Critical care paramedics were in attendance.

Meanwhile, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services firefighters were tasked to extinguish the fire which started after the crash, a spokesman said.

Firefighters were working on the road and motorists were warned to avoid Smith Street Motorway.

Two lanes were blocked and “significant traffic delay” were expected, a Gold Coast police spokeswoman said.

Light pole ripped from ground in chaotic Coast crash

September 9: A driver has lost control, mounted a median strip and crashed her car into a light pole, knocking it over and blocking three lanes on a busy Gold Coast road.

The 22-year-old was driving a Hyundai i30 on Ferry Rd at Southport when she “lost control” before hitting a median strip and “colliding with a light pole” about 4.15am on Wednesday, a Gold Coast police spokeswoman said.

“The light pole was knocked out of the ground and three lanes of the roadway were affected due to the crash,” she said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics took the driver to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It was not clear what injuries she may have suffered.

The light pole has been removed after the crash between Benowa Rd and Lupus St.

M1 crash: Woman in hospital with leg injuries

September 7: A woman has been taken to hospital with leg injuries following a two-vehicle crash at Oxenford.

The incident, which occurred on the Pacific Motorway just after 4.30pm Tuesday, resulted in some delays for peak-hour commuters.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman told the Bulletin two patients – a female in her 20s and an adult male – were treated at the scene.

They were both taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The man did not sustain any obvious injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The scene has since been cleared and traffic is moving.

‘Road rage’: Police probe bizarre head-on crash on Coast

September 7: Police have asked the public for help after an unusual M1 “road rage incident” and subsequent head-on crash at Merrimac on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast police stated that about 4pm on August 13 a white Honda CRV and a white Volkswagen Golf were heading southbound on the M1 “when both drivers allegedly started driving dangerously and interacting between each other”.

“Both vehicles turned onto Gooding Dr, where they have collided while travelling in the same direction.

RESCUERS CUT TWO PASSENGERS FREE AFTER HINTERLAND ROLLOVER

“No one was injured as a result of the crash however both vehicles sustained damage.”

Police added that the crash happened near a petrol station and about 400 metres past a fast food venue.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information, or dashcam footage, of the alleged incident to come forward.

Investigations were ongoing on Tuesday morning.

Multiple crashes cause havoc on Coast roads

September 4: A woman and child have had a lucky escape after walking away from a car rollover in Bonogin on Saturday morning – one of four crashes on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Ambulance Service said the pair got themselves out of the car without assistance before being assessed by paramedics.

They were both uninjured and were not taken to hospital.

The crash affected traffic in Bonogin along Smith Road at around 9.10 on Saturday morning.

Earlier, three people were taken to Gold Coast University hospital in a stable condition after a two-vehicle crash in Helensvale.

Queensland Ambulance Services were called to the crash around 7.30 on Saturday morning along Hope Island Road and Anaheim Drive.

Overnight, two men were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital after a two-vehicle crash along SeaWorld Drive at 12.20am.

Both men were in a stable condition but one was said to have had chest pain and the other with back pain.

A man and two women were also taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after a single-vehicle crash in Mermaid Waters.

Queensland Ambulance services said they were called to Cottesloe Drive and Bermuda Street around 10pm on Friday night.
