Main Beach’s famous up-market Tedder Ave has undergone its annual transformation into a petrol head’s paradise with the Supercars rolling in.

Transporters made their way through the retail and cafe strip on Wednesday delivering the Supercars to pit lane ahead of this weekend’s GC500 event.

And with the cars arriving, many of the drivers are getting their head into race mode.

Gold Coaster and Redbull Ampol Racing driver Broc Feeney currently sits in second place and said while the track hasn’t been “kindest” to him in the past, he’s hoping for a successful weekend.

“Qualifying is key around here, unfortunately, last year, I pretty much tripped every kerb sensor that was in the joint, so I think there’s a few discussions around that this weekend,” he said.

“I think we’re going to be fast here this weekend, we still had speed last year, we just didn’t put it together.

“It’s been a short turnaround since Bathurst, but got plenty of confidence coming in this weekend.”

Nipping a Feeney’s heels for a second year in a row Chaz Mostert said he was “just going to lick the stamp and send it” in this weekend’s races.

“This event’s just like Bathurst, there so many people that come from so many different places and Gold Coast is such an awesome tourist place to come and visit,” he said.

“For us drivers, we’re just trying to maintain ourselves … this track for 250km racing and the concrete jungle and how demanding it is on the drivers and the cars, we have to try and go into a bit of conservation mode.

“It is a really tough, gruelling race, especially if your car is a little bit hard to handle, hopefully we can dial that car in and make my job a bit easier.”

Fifth placed James Golding, from the PremiAir Nulon Racing team, said it was exciting to go into the weekend sitting in a good position.

“This round was pretty good for us last year, we had pretty good speed in the car and we had some pretty good results,” he said

“Looking at the improvements we made throughout the team, I think it’s going to be a good weekend for us.”

The Gold Coast 500 kicks off on Friday.
