A fire has broken out inside the bottom floor of a Burleigh Heads unit block with residents and bystanders helping to extinguish the blaze.
Emergency services were called to the property along the Gold Coast Highway near Christine Ave about 10.40pm on Saturday, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokeswoman said.
The unit’s occupants and other bystanders had managed to extinguish the blaze just before firefighters arrived on scene, according to the QFES spokeswoman.
Paramedics treated a man in his 70s for smoke inhalation and burns to his head and arms a Queensland Ambulance spokesman (QAS) said.
He was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The QAS spokesman said a second man in his 40s was also taken to Robina Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Smoke was still issuing from the bottom floor of the unit when emergency services arrived at the scene, and firefighters remained at the address for about an hour venting the premises.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said no one was injured from the fire and it was not being treated as suspicious.
The damage to the property was not believed to be significant.
