Premier Steven Miles in colourful last day of campaigning on Gold Coast

Premier Steven Miles has hit the Gold Coast for a colourful last day of campaigning that included a jet ski ride in waters near his rival David Crisafulli’s electorate.

Premier Steven Miles has taken a jet ski ride on the Broadwater before heading to the GC 500 after ducking into Gaven MP and Housing Minister’s Meaghan Scanlon’s Gold Coast seat.

The Premier was cooking a sausage sizzle at the Nerang Neighbourhood Centre at 11am before he slipped away to cool at the Broadwater.

He had earlier pledged $480,000 in funding if his government was re-elected after meeting with volunteers.

In stop 24 of his 36 seats in 36 hours blitz the Premier joined Ms Scanlon at the community centre in the heart of her must-win electorate, where she is locked in a knife-edge battle with LNP challenger Bianca Stone.

He said he was confident that Ms Scanlon could win given she was the local candidate and had been so hard working in the electorate.

Mr Miles then drove to the coast, where he ditched his grey suit before taking off on the jet ski in Shadow Environment Minister Sam O’Connor’s electorate of Bonney, which neighbours Mr Crisafulli’s patch.

He hopped on the jet ski at the Harley Park Public Boat ramp before heading north to Southport where he disembarked at the Broadwater Parklands.

From Southport Mr Miles caught a tram. His minders said he was eager to stop by and watch the racing the GC 500 in Surfers Paradise.

Mr Miles, in dark sunglasses and tight white t-shirt showing off his gym-crafted physique, looked every bit the Gold Coast tourist, as he jumped on a jetski and buzzing around the water briefly.

He said he had been on a jet ski before and had his licence but his Coast trip was a lot windier than expected.

Mr Miles said travelling by jet ski was the best way to travel between electorates.

“It was a bit choppier than we expected but what better way to get around two electorates than on a jet ski,” he said.

Earlier he gave his final press conference and message to Queenslanders before Saturday’s State poll.

Mr Miles appealed to undecided voters to stick with Labor, saying there was “so much doubt” around where the LNP stood on a number of issues.

“With change comes risk,” he said. “If you can’t be sure then you need to vote Labor, because it’s Labor that you know, it’s me that you know, it’s me that has answered questions and told you what I stand for.”

Ms Scanlon and Ms Stone are locked in a titanic battle for the seat of Gaven, considered by many commentators an important seat to the LNP’s hopes of forming majority government.

The Opposition has flooded the seat with resources in a move branded by Labor as “desperation”.
