Police have launched an investigation after a suspected arson incident in an affluent northern Gold Coast suburb.

Emergency services were called to a residential address on Coombe St, Hope Island at about 1.57am on Saturday to reports of a vehicle on fire.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the vehicle, a New South Wales registered Toyota Prado, is not believed to be stolen but appeared to have been deliberatley lit on fire.

The owner of the vehicle, a NSW man in his 60s, is assiting police.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews arrived on scene and quickly worked to put out the smouldering car.

Police are treating the incident as deliberate arson. Investigations are ongoing.
