When the front doors of Yi Dynasty Korean BBQ started shaking on Friday night, owner Terry Bae rushed over to try keep them closed.
But in a matter of minutes, strong gusts of wind from Tropical Cyclone Alfred blew in the windows next to him, smashing the glass panels sending shards flying into the restaurant.
“At the back side we heard a boom noise,” wife and co-owner Sidney Kim said.
“The store was so windy and we had a door at the back smashed in also.”
The couple had been in the store to prepare it for the impending cyclone but were still serving customers.
“There was no food [elsewhere] so customers were coming … they kept coming,” Ms Kim said.
Ms Kim said no one - including a paramedic eating inside - was hurt when the front window and back door blew in.
But when the couple returned to their business the following day, they were missing more than just the window and door.
“We had ourselves a thief in here,” Ms Kim said.
Food, a tablet and a computer had been stolen from the business overnight and with little available to secure the restaurant at the time, water and wind had wreaked havoc.
But the pair are looking on the bright side.
“We don’t have a window, we don’t have a door but customers still enjoy it,” Ms Kim said.
“We have a lot of regular customers and they worry about us which is so sweet.”
The business posted the video of the shocking moment onto their Instagram page and reassured customers they were safe.
“We will come back stronger,” they promised in the caption.
The missing windows and door have been boarded up but the business could be waiting up to two weeks before the glass panel is replaced.
“We’ve don’t have experience with a cyclone,” Ms Kim said. “We’ve never had that kind of situation.
“So with these huge strong winds- we go ‘woah’, we are city people.”
