Grammy Award winner Macy Gray is Gold Coast bound for the first time in more than a decade – and she’s revealed exactly what she plans to do.

Grammy Award winner Macy Gray is Gold Coast bound for the first time in more than a decade, and looking forward to playing some cards at the casino in Broadbeach.

The singer/songwriter is celebrating 25 years since the release of her 1999 debut studio album On How Is Life, featuring Grammy Award winning track I Try.

Now the artist says she can’t wait to get back to the Coast for not only her July 9 gig at The Star, but a good game of cards.

“It’s been a minute,” she said of her last visit to the Glitter Strip.

“I like to play cards. I love poker and blackjack. I’m really bad at both – but I like playing so I was at the casino quite a bit (when last here).”

The celebrated artist said audiences can expect the whole first album live – and maybe some new music in store for fans.

“There’s new music coming out this month and another album on the way,” she said.

“We’re going to play other stuff but the hook of the show is celebrating the first album.”

Gray said years on from On How Is Life, things were worlds apart.

Ten studio albums and 25 years later she said “everything has changed.”

“I was in my 20s when I did that album, now I’m in my 50s. My kids are older, we moved a bunch of times, I’ve been all over the world a bunch and had a lot of ups and downs.

She added: “I remember when I was brand new and I didn’t know much. I was around all those people that had been in it (the industry) for a long time – now I realise I’m one of those people.”

The singer revealed she was proud of herself.

“I know everybody doesn’t make it this far so I’m patting myself on the back a little bit,” she said.
