Police say a woman who has spent five days clinging to life in hospital after being shot at Tallebudgera last week will be woken from an induced coma, as her distressed dad breaks his silence.

Linley Anyos, 33, was seated in the front passenger seat of a car at Trees Rd, Tallebudgera, last Wednesday at about midday when police believe a shotgun was discharged from the back seat of the vehicle into her back.

She was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. So bad were her injuries many speculated she had already died, leaving tributes to her online.

On Monday, Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said Ms Anyos might yet pull through, albeit with “life-altering” injuries.

“The victim remains in a critical condition, she’s classified as serious but stable,” Detective Inspector Mooney said.

“Doctors will be looking to bring her out of sedation today [Monday], which is a really critical stage for her.

“There’s obviously an opportunity she could go into shock and still pass away from her injuries... [which] are significant and they’ll be life-altering.”

Detective Inspector Mooney said police would release CCTV footage later on Monday depicting a “white Hino tow truck” of interest to investigators.

“We believe [the truck] left the scene immediately after the shooting occurred,” he said.

“We understand it drove around the Tallebudgera area for maybe an hour or two before returning back into the Nerang area.”

Investigators are interested in speaking to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the vehicle or recall seeing it at the relevant times, Detective Inspector Mooney added.

The truck, a Ranger model, was subsequently discovered later on Monday abandoned at Nerang Connection Rd, near Palings Ct, Queensland Police said in a statement issued at about 2.20pm.

Detectives are also still chasing a number of witnesses – perhaps five to 10 – who were at the scene last Wednesday.

Police previously revealed there was significant foot and vehicular traffic on the day due to free goods advertised on Facebook Marketplace.

The witnesses who had come forward – about 10 to 15 – had provided “varying versions of what’s actually occurred”.

“We’re still trying to paint the picture and clarify exactly what’s happened to our victim,” Detective Inspector Mooney said.

The suspect remains outstanding and police cannot discount the possibility he has fled interstate.

A search warrant executed at industrial premises at Bailey Cres, Southport last Friday was fruitless.

“We believe [the suspect] had been staying there and was there prior to attending Trees Rd,” Detective Inspector Mooney said.

He confirmed there was no domestic relationship between Ms Anyos and the person suspected of shooting her, although detectives believe they travelled to Trees Rd together in the same vehicle, alongside Ms Anyos’ partner.

“We don’t believe there’s too much of a background there, we believe they may have only met that day,” Detective Inspector Mooney said.

On Saturday, Ms Anyos’ father Brian paid tribute to his daughter, who he said was “fighting like a beast”, contrary to online speculation she had died.

“As you have heard Linley – Ling Ling or whatever you may know her as – has undergone a life changing situation and while some people might be promoting and commiserating her death, that is simply not true,” he wrote.

“[She] is in a very dangerous stage of her healing and needs time and space so the amazing medical team that is working with Linley can do their jobs.

“This is friggin’ tough on us.

“Amy [my wife] and I are absolutely heartbroken as I assume many of you are, and while we would love you all to flood Linley with love and wishes, you need to do that on here for now.”
