A Gold Coast man has been sentenced for deliberately exposing himself to women while wearing an adult diaper.

Lachlan Rhys Kent, 25, pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court on Tuesday to four counts of indecent act in any place to which the public are permitted to access.

The court heard Kent exposed himself to women while wearing a diaper repeatedly in a public park in 2024.

In the first incident, Kent pulled down the top of his trousers when walking past a 22-year-old woman walking her dog in a Pacific Pines park.

This revealed the waistband of his adult diaper, emblazoned with ‘Piss on me’ in large black text.

The woman stopped walking and Kent turned around to face the woman, pulled his trousers down exposing the diaper completely.

He then pulled down the diaper, exposing his genitalia while shrugging at her.

She picked up her dog and ran.

Six days later, in the same park, Kent exposed his diaper twice: first to a person who saw him with a dummy in his mouth, then to a 31-year-old female jogger about an hour later.

The final offence took place on June 18, 2024 when Kent walked past two teenage girls who were walking home at the park.

It is not suggested Kent was aware of the girls’ ages.

Kent walked ahead of them and once out of sight behind a corner, he pulled his trousers to his ankle, exposing his diaper.

When the 13 and 14-year-olds turned the corner and saw this, Kent smiled and urinated.

The court heard the girls could see that not all of the urine was contained in the diaper.

After one minute, Kent pulled up his trousers and walked away.

Kent was gone by the time police attended the park, however officers found a diaper at the location.

The serial diaper flasher was caught on June 20, 2024, after a man recognised him from a post in a local community Facebook page.

The man contacted police which eventually led to Kent being located and charged.

After he was granted bail, Kent returned home with police for the execution of a search warrant.

The search revealed adult diapers, a dummy, clothing matching the flasher’s description, and photos on Kent’s phone of him wearing diapers, some with ‘piss on me’ written on the waistband.

The court heard Kent’s conduct seemed to stem from his interest in “adult baby diaper lover” [ABDL] activities.

Kent uses ABDL to engage with a sexual partner in a sexual context but also uses it to soothe stress. The court heard Kent and his sexual partner engage in “piss play” and that was the context for the words written on the diaper.

It was said in court that Kent was diagnosed with the genetic condition Klinefelter syndrome in 2021 and had received hormone replacement therapy, which created significant mood instability. This led him to decide to stop taking medication.

The court heard that around the same time of the offences, Kent was experiencing significant depression, had taken time off from university due to his mental health and was apart from his sexual partner.

The court heard Kent, who was living with family members, was conscious of being teased due to his reliance of ABDL for emotional dysregulation and responded by being less inclined to be considerate of his behaviour.

A psychologist’s report submitted to the court said Kent wasn’t doing the acts for gratification, however the court heard Kent’s ABDL activities can develop a sexual element.

The court heard Kent said he had the need or urge to feel recognised rather than intentionally seeking sexual gratification, which led to his behaviour.

At the time Kent spoke with the psychologist he was still engaging in ABDL activities on a nightly basis, however never during the day or in public.

Defence barrister Tracy Thorp, instructed by Watling Roche Lawyers, told the court her client has an upcoming counselling session, wants to return to university next year and has plans to continue running his 3D printing hobby business.

Judge Jodie Wooldridge KC noted Kent had expressed significant regret, remorse and insight into his offending.

She sentenced him to a two year probation order with the additional condition that he must submit to medical, psychiatric or psychological treatment as authorised by a corrective services officer.

No conviction was recorded.
