Dreamworld announces opening of new ‘Flyer’ ride as part of their 42nd birthday celebrations

Theme park giant announces opening of new ride boasting over 3000 LED lights. Find out where you can ride it.

Theme park giant Dreamworld has unveiled its latest attraction – the $6m Dreamworld Flyer – as it gears up to celebrate a major milestone.

In tandem with the launch of its newest ride, the park is celebrating its 42nd birthday.

The Dreamworld Flyer, which opens on Friday, boasts 64 seats, over 3000 LED lights as well as 128 water fountains that reach up to 7m in the air.

Featuring an impressive light spectacle and a fountain display, the Flyer ride travels at 48km/h with a choice between 32 single rider seats, or 16 double seats.

Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong said this is a “monumental moment” in the park’s history.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 42 years of creating magical memories at Dreamworld,” he said.

“The Dreamworld Flyer is an exciting addition to our line-up of attractions.

“We can’t wait for our guests to experience the thrill and wonder it brings.

“This year’s birthday celebration is set to be one for the books, with The Dreamworld Flyer taking centre stage.”

The Flyer marks the first new ride at the park since the launch of Dreamworld’s largest rollercoaster – the Steel Taipan.

Opening in 2021 after delays due to the Covid pandemic, the $32 million ride became a favourite among park guests.

This summer is set to be a big one for the theme park park’s biggest with other new attractions to join the Flyer.

Dreamworld’s beloved mascots will take centre stage when Kenny and Belinda’s Dreamland officially opens, including new family ride The Wiggles’ Big Red Boat Coaster and new wet play splash zone, Seabed Splash.

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO RIDE THE DREAMWORLD FLYER

I initially approached the opportunity to be one of the first to ride Dreamworld’s new ride with much anticipation.

For someone who is perpetually cautious (and usually scared) about any kind of theme park ride I was very pleasantly surprised.

At a cruisy 48km/h, I felt almost relaxed as I spun around, fairytale music playing throughout the duration of the ride.

The water fountains, however, were probably my favourite part.

With summer well and truly in full swing, the mist from the 128 water fountains was cool and refreshing.

While none of the 3000 LED lights were turned on while during my ride, I got a sneak peak of them after, and I was mesmerised.

I would recommend this ride for anyone who is scared of or just want a break from the fast-paced rides that take up the majority of the theme park.

Or if you’re chasing a breath of fresh air, you’ll be invigorated by the breeze and the water fountains.

With a good view over the centre of the park, this ride was more than enjoyable and I will certainly be back for more.
