Multiple crashes have seen a succession of injured patients taken to Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) on a shocking day for incidents on Gold Coast roads.

The most seriously injured was a man in his twenties who was brought to the hospital with a “significant” leg injury after his motorbike crashed at the junction of Nielsens Rd and Murev Way at 2.30pm.

A lane was closed each way at the scene of the accident, causing delays for motorists using Nielsens Rd.

The accident was one of three involving motorcyclists on Wednesday afternoon.

At 2.24pm, emergency services were called to the M1 at Pimpama after a motorbike collided with the trailer of a vehicle.

A QAS spokesperson said the motorbike rider, a woman in her seventies, was treated for an arm injury. She was taken to GCUH in stable condition.

The accident caused fresh delays for M1 commuters, with southbound traffic backed up to Stapylton.

Another vehicle and motorcycle crash took place on Southport Burleigh Rd beside Treetops in Burleigh Waters at 4pm. A man in his fifties was assessed by paramedics for leg injuries and taken to GCUH in stable condition.

Three people – one of them a child – were injured in a nasty two-vehicle crash at the junction of White St and Cotton St in Nerang at 3.18pm.

A female adult was treated for shock, a male child suffered facial injuries while another adult suffered neck pain. All three were taken to GCUH in stable condition.

The crash chaos began on the Gold Coast at 6.10am, when a two-car crash on the M1 at Stapylton caused heavy delays for southbound motorists. Nobody was injured in that incident.

There were again delays on the motorway later in the morning after two cars crashed near exit 73 at Carrara. One man was taken to GCUH in stable condition following that incident.

Two more people were taken to GCUH with minor injuries after two cars collided at the junction of Monterey Keys Drive and Helensvale Rd in Helensvale at 12.08pm.

And on Davenport St in Southport, a woman was taken to hospital after a crash involving three vehicles at 12.45pm.
