A woman has been lucky to escape serious injury after her brand new vehicle crashed through two gardens, finally coming to a halt near a swimming pool.
The woman was leaving the driveway of her Molendinar home at about 7.30am on Wednesday when the car took off, crossing the street and ploughing through a neighbouring property before going over a retaining wall and coming to a halt in the yard of a house behind it.
The BYD car, which had only been delivered the week before, demolished fencing and a shed before finally coming to a halt. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The woman who was driving the car was not seriously injured.
Neighbour Cassandra Melia said she was alerted to the accident when she heard a loud noise.
“I was ironing a shirt. I heard this almighty metal noise and I thought, ‘What was that?’.
“My husband screamed out, ‘Cassandra, quick, call the ambulance and fireys’.
“He then run over to help.
“I couldn’t believe it.”
Ambulance and fire crews attended the scene, however the woman driving the car was not seriously injured and did not require transport to hospital.
Shortly before 1pm the car was removed from the garden by a crane before being taken away on a tow truck.
John Brookes, whose garden the BYD traversed, said neighbours came running quickly to help when the accident happened.
“I heard a huge almighty bash and came running out the front door. I saw the neighbour from across the road galloping across the road and through my backyard and I thought, ‘Where the hell is he going?’
“Then I realised what had happened was the car had gone straight across my garden, took the two fences out and almost landed in the swimming pool next door.
“It’s actually hit the building, it’s dislodged bricks in the building, so it’s hit it pretty hard.
“People had called the ambulance and people were coming from everywhere.”
Mr Brookes said his neighbour behind him had been fortunate not to be injured in the incident.
“The lady of the house where the car hit, only a few moments before was in the backyard where it hit,” he said.
“She was extremely lucky she didn’t get taken out with it.”
