A residential developer says Gold Coast City Council is to blame for a hilarious playground design fail, adding a twist to the “Booby Park” saga.
Parents dubbed an Arundel Springs playground “Booby Park” due to the choice of colour used on several large mounds, which they say appear to look like breasts.
But a spokeswoman for residential developer Villa World said it handed over ownership, maintenance and management of the park to the council in late-2020 after it completed construction of the community.
“The rubber softfall matting product used was done so at the request of council, who believed it to be of the highest-quality, providing the longest lasting colour when exposed to UV light,” the spokeswoman said.
“After more than two years the original red, orange and green colouring of the matting has faded to shades of green and pink.
“As the community park is now under ownership of council, it is responsible for maintenance and upkeep.”
A council spokeswoman said there were no current plans for maintenance of the playground.
“The city is committed to ensuring infrastructure and services are provided in a sustainable manner, and undergo maintenance as required,” she said.
“The playground is considered to be safe and in good working order, and does not require maintenance at this time.”
‘Booby Park’: Hilarious backlash over epic park design fail - February 22
Parents have dubbed a Gold Coast playground “Booby Park” due to a hilarious design fail.
The amusing mishap has even prompted a call for the playground to be redesigned.
Park users have questioned the choice of colour used on several large mounds in the Arundel Springs playground, which they say appear to look like breasts.
A local resident, who asked not to be named, said many saw the lighter side of the blunder.
“What can you say except maybe the designer needs a recommendation for a dating service?,” she said.
“And some practical knowledge with kids wouldn’t go astray as the park is clearly missing bathroom facilities.
“Perhaps we could trade in the boobs for something families really need?”
Parents have taken to social media to reveal the funny nicknames their children have given the park, including “Booby Park”, “Bouncy Boobies” and “The Booby Playground”.
