GFNL Stats 2024: All the stats and top performers from round five

Plenty of stars went large in the GFNL over the weekend, and two in particular produced astronomical numbers. See all the stats and the top 20 ranked players here.

Everyone in the Geelong Football Netball League knows Tanner Lovell can find the footy, but the Geelong West star took it to another level in their win over St Albans.

The prolific midfielder got a case of leather poisoning, gathering an astounding 49 disposals – the most by any player this season.

But that wasn’t all, the Geelong VFL player also finished with 22 contested possessions, 13 clearances, nine inside 50s and three goals on his way to 223 Premier Data ranking points, making a strong case to the Cats’ selection panel.

But his mammoth total was beaten by Colac gun Zach Zdybel, who equalled his own record in their 120-point win.

After scoring 228 ranking points in round three, Zdybel had a lazy 50 hitouts, 31 disposals, 19 contested possesions, 11 marks, 10 clearances, two goals and 228 points in their big win over North Shore.

Star forward Adam Garner had a field day, kicking eight goals to go with 18 disposals, 13 marks and 169 points, while former AFL player Jonathan Simpkin had 25 disposals, 13 contested possessions, 1.4 and 124 points.

Lovell certainly wasn’t alone on Saturday for the Giants, with four os his teammates topping 130 points: Emmanuel Ajang (31 disposals, nine inside 50s, two goals and 158 points), Sean Barnes (32 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven marks and 153 points), David Handley (32 disposals, eight clearances, eight inside 50s, seven tackles, two goals and 147 points) and Ethan Liddle (32 disposals, 17 contested possessions, eight clearances and 137 points).

Up forward Patrick Eastman (6.2, 18 disposals, nine marks and 116 points) and Lachie Horniblow (4.3, 22 disposals, 13 marks and 127 points) proved unstoppable as Supersaints defender Fletcher Keck was productive with 38 disposals, seven rebound 50s and 124 points.

It was a shootout in Newtown & Chillwell’s triumph over Lara and Liam Nash (three goals, 26 disposals at 92 per cent efficiency, 13 marks, three goals and 140 points, Luke Maddock (18 disposals, 11 marks, 6.2 and 138 points) and Flynn Young (22 disposals, nine marks, 5.2 and 133 points) all hit the scoreboard in a big way.

But it was Braden Hocking who led the ranking points with 28 disposals, 12 rebound 50s, nine marks an 175 points, while Will O’Dwyer wasn’t far behind with a whopping 40 disposals, 10 clearnces, nine inside 50s and 140 points.

Leopold captain Marcus Thompson wasted no time in his return from injury, kicking a goal and collecting 27 disposals, 10 clearances, nine inside 50s and 141 points, while Connor Giddings (4.4, 19 disposals, eight marks and 134 points) also produced an emphatic display in the Lions’ 71-point win over Grovedale.

Tate Porter and Tom Feely both kicked two goals from the midfield for the Lions with Feely finishing with a game-high 31 disposals, seven inside 50s, six marks and 123 points.

St Mary’s midfielder Harry Benson stellar start to the season continued with 25 disposals, 14 contested possessions, eight clearances, nine tackles, a goal and 141 points in his side’s come-from-behind win over South Barwon.

Todd White led the way for South Barwon with tallied 30 disposals, nine rebound 50s, eight marks and 139 points as reigning Mathieson medallist Fraser Fort kicked four goals.
