Two people were taken to hospital after a crash on the Geelong Ring Road on Friday afternoon that caused major delays as long weekend traffic headed into the region.
Emergency services were called to a scene in Waurn Ponds about 3.25pm.
Two people were taken by ambulance to Geelong hospital.
Their condition was still unknown late on Friday afternoon.
According to Apple Maps, traffic was backed up as far back as the Fyansford exit, with one southbound lane closed and the speed set to 40km/h.
Victoria Police have urge motorists to take extra care on the roads over the King’s Birthday long weekend as the number of lives lost on the state’s roads surges to a 16-year high.
A Victoria Police spokesman said Operation Regal, which started Friday, would see police “ramp up enforcement across the state in an effort to drive down road trauma”.
“There have now been 136 lives lost on Victorian roads in 2025, up 14 per cent on the same time last year,” he said.
“The last time 136 or more lives lost had been recorded at this point of the year was in 2008, with 137.”
