The Pier Geelong to close its doors after 15 years

Customers with bookings at the popular events space have been informed the venue will close just before Christmas.

The Pier Geelong is closing.

A well-known Geelong venue is shutting its doors, notifying those with bookings they will no longer go ahead.

The Pier Geelong, a popular spot for weddings, will close just before Christmas after 15 years operating from their Cunningham Pier location.

A statement on the restaurant’s website explained The Pier’s commercial lease expires on December 22 and will not be renewed.

It’s understood customers with bookings after that date have been informed of the closure.

“We want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our exceptional team — past and present — who have made The Pier what it is today,” the statement read.

Works continue on The Pier Geelong in 2013.

“Your talent, dedication, and passion have shaped a space loved by so many.

“While this transition means our current team will be moving on to new opportunities, we are committed to supporting every staff member as they navigate their next steps.”

The same statement was up on Wah Wah Gee’s website, who were contacted for comment.

Wah Wah Gee is an Asian-fusion restaurant also located in the Cunningham Pier building.

It is unclear a this stage if it is closing.

It’s understood that at this stage, another venue isn’t yet lined up to fill the iconic waterfront slot.

“To our loyal customers: thank you for trusting us to host your weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and memorable dining experiences,” the statement read.

“We are proud to have been part of your stories and honoured to serve this community.

“Your support over the years has meant everything to us.

“As we reflect on this bittersweet moment, we hold our heads high, proud of what we’ve achieved together.

“While we don’t yet know what the future holds for this extraordinary venue, we hope it continues to bring joy to Geelong as it has for us.

“For now, we look forward to serving you until 22nd December 2024 and making the most of our time at this iconic location.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”

The Pier is a well known venue which caters for everything from weddings to corporate conferences.

Recently it has hosted a number of Year 12 graduation celebrations.
