A new restaurant is bringing authentic Texan flavours to Armstrong Creek.

Tim Jordan and Nathan Zammit’s new venture Armstrong Barbecue will open to the public on Friday, serving Texan BBQ.

The pair, co-owners of burger joint Smashville Geelong in Newcomb, is passionate about genuine Texas BBQ taste.

Mr Jordan lived in Texas for many years and Mr Zammit worked last year in Austin alongside prestigious BBQ pitmasters.

“We really want to bring that authentic experience to the beautiful people of Geelong,” Mr Zammit said.

The menu highlight, Mr Zammit said, was the BBQ brisket, cooked “to perfection” on two custom-made 1000 gallon offset smokers built in Cleveland in the USA state of Georgia.

Mr Zammit said this was a central reason they had been able to bring the real Texan taste to Geelong, and the Armstrong Barbecue opening had been delayed while they waited for the offset smokers to arrive.

“We want to be known as a venue doing traditional central Texas style BBQ,” he said.

“We’re also handmaking all our sausage, and everything is smoked with red gum wood.”

Mr Jordan said their focus was to bring this genuine experience of Texas-style food and service, so they would also be serving up a few traditional TexMex dishes.

“Real authentic street food type stuff,” he said.

“And if it’s good enough to make the menu, we’ll do it justice.”

Armstrong Barbecue will open to the public on Friday May 17, with bookings essential.
