Suspicious fire destroys vacant home on Princes Highway in Corio

A Corio home has been destroyed in a suspicious blaze on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to the vacant weatherboard property on the Princes Highway, across the road from the Gateway Hotel, just before 10pm.

The home was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene.

A police spokeswoman said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

“A crime scene has been established,” the spokeswoman said.

“No one was inside the premises at the time.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”

Police guarded the scene on Thursday morning and a temporary fence had been placed around the property.

The front windows had been boarded up and graffiti was sprawled across the weatherboards.
