A man who allegedly threatened to kill heavily armed police officers and threatened them with a weapon after a tense five-hour rooftop siege has been charged with a string of offences.

Norlane’s Jordan Boland faced Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday after he was arrested on Camellia Crescent last night, hours after he first scaled a tin roof at 1pm.

No application for bail was made and the 26-year-old will face court again on Monday.

Members from the Critical Incident Response Team were called from Melbourne to negotiate with the offender before he allegedly confronted them with a metal rod.

He would later assault police, it will be alleged.

Capsicum spray and a taser were used without effect before his arrest at 6.25pm.

He has been charged with making threats to kill, criminal damage, possess dangerous article, assault police officer, throw missile to injure and common law assault.

Witnesses first reported the man behaving “erratically” on the roof, with emergency services called on Thursday and the street cordoned off.

Specialist police arrived just after 4pm carrying large firearms.

One resident said the man, wearing a brown shirt and carrying parts of an antenna, had been on the Norlane roof since the early afternoon and refused to come down.

He could be heard yelling incoherently as locals watched from the street, and allegedly threw projectiles.

The standoff was the third siege in Geelong this month.

An almost eight-hour ordeal ended with Peter Banzic’s arrest in Bell Park on November 4 after he allegedly assaulted a woman.

A week later, on November 11, Kaleb Harris was charged after barricading himself inside a Greenmount Ave residence.

Specialist tactical officers from Melbourne were called on all occasions.

It comes almost a year after a naked man spent six hours on the roof of a Norlane home near the corner of North Shore Rd and Portland St.
