Norlane man arrested after alleged stabbing, siege in Geelong’s north

Police negotiated with a man inside a Norlane home for several hours after he allegedly stabbed another man.

Alleged stabbing, siege in Norlane

A man who allegedly stabbed another male was arrested after an almost six hour stand off with police in Geelong’s north.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing on Karrin Crt in Norlane about 6pm on Monday.

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police then negotiated with another man, who had barricaded himself inside the home, for several hours before specialist officers forced their way into the property and arrested him about 11.30pm.

“A 42-year-old Norlane man has been charged with aggravated burglary with a weapon and intentionally cause injury,” a police spokesman said.

“It is alleged that the parties are known to each other.”

Police swarmed the area and heavily armed officers from the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) surrounded the home for several hours.

A police chopper was flying low over the area while the incident unfolded.

Next door neighbour Barry Stovik said specialist police were in his backyard and used a ladder to climb over his fence in the man’s property.

“They told (residents) to stay inside to keep ourselves safe,” he said.

“I heard it was a machete attack.”

Mr Stovik could hear CIRT officers banging on doors and windows and speaking through a megaphone to the man inside the home.

He said officers escorted the man in handcuffs to a waiting divvy van.

Police and detectives remained at the scene until about 8am on Tuesday.

Rubbish was dumped near the front door of the unit and littered across the front lawn.

Drops of blood could be seen on the driveway’s pavement.

A letter box out front of the property had been knocked over and badly damaged.

Mr Stovik said the man allegedly smashed the letter box last week.

Karrin Crt is near Montessori Minds Childcare and Kindergarten and Bunnings Warehouse on the Princes Hwy.

The Norlane man is expected to front the Geelong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

It comes after another dramatic siege in nearby Corio last month.

A man and a woman barricaded themselves inside a Horne Square home for five hours before CIRT officers removed them from the property.
