A man is fighting for life in the Royal Melbourne Hospital after a bloody accident at a Bellarine Peninsula boat ramp.

As of Monday morning, a spokeswoman from the Royal Melbourne Hospital said the man, in his 60s, remained in a critical condition after the boating mishap in St Leonards on Friday afternoon.

At least five Ambulance Victoria units and an air ambulance arrived at the town’s jetty just after 5pm after reports the man had been seriously injured.

Onlookers watched on in complete shock from the boat ramp in the picturesque coastal town as an air ambulance landed on an adjacent field on Ward Street.

He was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition.

One witness said he was walking past “and saw a boat doing circles” with one man in the water.

It’s believed the man has suffered major injuries after being struck in the head by the propeller.

“I saw a man jump in the water after him,” one witness told the Geelong Advertiser.

“He’s in a bad way.”

Paramedics were assisted by bystanders in order to lift the man onto an ambulance stretcher.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said she could hear the man “moaning in pain”.

“We all just hope he is alright,” she said.

“It looks like he has been hit with something.”

Victoria Police arrived at the scene and cordoned off an area of the ramp, including a boat.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital confirmed the man remained in a critical condition on Sunday.
