A man has been charged following two house fires at the same address in Whittington on Tuesday.

A Whittington man has been charged after he allegedly set his own home on fire twice in five hours.

Emergency services were called to the same address in Explorer Crt twice within a matter of hours on Tuesday following reports of fire.

Crews first arrived on scene about 4.30pm.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a man in his 40s was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Hours later at 9.40pm, crews were called back to the property to tackle a small fire in the roof.

The fire was deemed under control within 20 minutes.

Another man was assessed by paramedics at the scene and also taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Geelong Crime Investigation unit said both fires were suspicious.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the occupant, a 45-year-old man, was charged in relation to the blazes.

“The Whittington man has been charged with one count of arson and will appear before Geelong Magistrates’ Court later today,” the spokeswoman said.

“The charges relate to two fires at an Explorer Crt address.”
