A man has died while in custody at a Geelong jail with staff and fellow prisoners being offered support.

A man has died while in custody at a Geelong prison.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were called to the Marngoneet Correctional Centre on Monday morning after reports a man was found dead inside his cell.
A spokeswoman from Corrections Victoria confirmed the death of the 37-year-old prisoner at the Lara facility.
It’s believed staff and fellow inmates are being provided with support following the incident.
“We recognise that all deaths in custody have an impact on family members, friends, those working within the corrections system, as well as victims of crime, and we’re working to ensure they are provided with the support they need,” she said.
“The death of any person in custody is a tragedy and Corrections Victoria sends its condolences to the person’s family.”
Marngoneet is a medium-security facility with its main unit comprising of 40 cells.
It was opened in Lara in 2006.
A Victorian Coroner is expected to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.
