A former restaurant owner accused of a raft of serious crimes including making threats to kill, drug trafficking and stalking has appeared from the docks in a Geelong court.
Joshua John Plozza, 32, fronted Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with more than a dozen serious offences, including multiple counts of making threats to kill, recklessly causing injury and threats to inflict serious injury.
Police allege the ex-businessman subjected a woman to physical and verbal abuse over a sustained period, including assaulting her on multiple occasions, as well as threatening to kill her or inflict serious injury.
Mr Plozza, appearing from the dock in custody on a separate matter, is also accused of trafficking cocaine, possessing anabolic steroids, and dealing with the proceeds of crime, namely $19,999 in cash, according to court documents.
All the charges are alleged to have occurred between March 2023 and June 2024.
His defence counsel sought an adjournment for a committal hearing, telling the court a witness in relation to the charges on Tuesday had discussed her own allegations against the complainant with Mr Plozza.
The court also heard the accused and the victim had been in a previous relationship prior to the allegations being made.
Magistrate Simon Guthrie noted “possible contamination” before adjourning the matter for a committal hearing on August 29.
A ground rules hearing will be heard on the same day.
Mr Plozza spoke briefly from the dock only to confirm he had no questions for the magistrate when told of his new court date.
He is the former owner of JP’s Drive Thru on Yarra St.
