A British chef and TV personality has paid a popular Lorne venue a visit for a free snag.

On a recent trip Down Under, celebrity chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay was photographed at the Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club (LAAC).

LAAC vice commodore and “world champion sausage cook” Ric Addison said the club often attracted big names, however Ramsay’s visit was especially exciting.

“(Ramsay) had been in Melbourne on business and came down the coast for a drive, when he heard all the commotion at the club,” he said.

“When he came in he was inundated with people wanting photos and came over while I was just starting the barbecue.”

Mr Addison said Ramsay didn’t try to intervene while the chief sausage chef got to work on the barbecue.

The LAAC gives away more than 100 sausages to the public each Friday night, equating to about 6000 sausages annually.

In a recent Facebook post, the club joked Ramsay had visited Australia just to taste one of their sausages.

“This bloke had heard about the 6000 plus sausages we give away each year and was also told they were the best in the world so he flew from London especially to check it out,” the post read.

“He agreed that they were definitely the best he had ever tasted and he said the same about our beer.”

Mr Addison said while Ramsay’s visit was fleeting, you could feel the excitement and energy among the club’s approximately 250 patrons that night.
