A young family’s nightmare ordeal after a black mould infestation forced them out of their property and rendered their son chronically ill could yet have a happy ending, with a white knight tradie offering to replaster their entire home for free.

Parents Janelle and Daniel Bridge have been left “speechless” by the generosity shown by Axon Plastering, which felt compelled to help them after reading of their plight in the Geelong Advertiser.

The company is in the process of replacing the plaster in their Lara home after it was gutted due to the potentially life-threatening mould found behind its walls.

The couple moved in with relatives and were applying to draw funds from their superannuation to pay for the extensive repairs.

“They are truly angels,” Ms Bridge said.

“This is literally going to save us thousands of dollars that, quite frankly, we don’t have.

“The kindness has left us speechless and stunned.”

Janelle’s teenage son, Seb, has been eating through his nose using a specially-fitted tube in recent weeks due to toxic mould inhalation.

He spent three weeks in the Royal Children’s Hospital after suffering further complications from a rare auto-immune disorder triggered by a black mould infestation.

The silent killer was originally located behind the plaster and subfloor in a bathroom earlier this year, but was found to be riddled throughout the property.

Their roof has come off and all walls exposed, leaving a massive repair bill.

The Axon Plastering team have given their services free of charge.

“Thankfully some of our suppliers have also joined in to support the cause,” a company spokesman said.

“(It was) and opportunity to help a local family who is enduring health problems with their son.

“Thank you to our team for putting in the effort to get this completed.”

Ms Bridge, whose son has been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and impaired liver function, said the family could be back inside their home in time for Christmas.

“That will truly be a gift,” she said.

“And the peace of mind we now have knowing nothing is lurking behind the walls or our high pitched roof is so reassuring.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”
