A teenage boy is in hospital after he was allegedly bashed by a gang of four men near the Geelong Railway Station.

Victoria Police has launched an investigation into the disturbing assault, alleged to have occurred about 5.15pm on Monday.

It’s believed the Grovedale teen, 16, was approached and attacked by the group along Railway Terrace.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Geelong hospital for treatment.

A police spokeswoman said his alleged attackers then fled the scene on foot “and were last seen heading towards Railway Terrace”.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics arrived on scene quickly after the assault.

“A teenage male was taken to Geelong Hospital with upper body injuries in a stable condition,” she said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information, should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

It comes after a man allegedly set a bus on fire as it moved towards the Geelong CBD last month.

Victoria Police released an image of a man officers allege ignited the rear of one of the seats after he boarded an East Geelong bus on June 13.

It is believed he hopped on at about 10.30am.

“As the bus neared the CBD, the male ignited the rear of one of the bus seats,” a police spokeswoman said.

“The driver was required to pull over and extinguish the flames.”

The alleged offender was wearing a black cap and white hooded jumper.

Police are urging anyone who recognises the man to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote reference number 230207798.

It also follows an investigation into an alleged sex creep on a Corio line bus, who was seen performing a lewd act in front of a schoolgirl on June 22.

According Crime Statistics Agency data, 341 criminal incidents occurred across the public transport network in Greater Geelong in the 12 months from March 2022-23.

It was the highest number of recorded incidents since the same period in 2020.

Victoria Police, in a statement to the Geelong Advertiser, said Protective Services Officers and uniform police patrol both train and major bus interchanges in the Greater Geelong area everyday.

“We want to reassure the community that police will respond to and investigate all reported incidents,” the statement read.

“We encourage the community to report any incidents or anti-social behaviour at the earliest opportunity to local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
