Cam Guthrie, Brad Close and Isaac Smith were among a bunker of past and present AFL players that teed off at the Peninsula Sotheby’s Portsea Celebrity Pro-Am on Saturday.
The three golf-fanatic Cats crossed the bay for the event, which raised money for this year’s charity partner, Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
Geelong midfielder and all-Australian Cam Guthrie, whose mum Suzanne is a breast cancer survivor, revealed he had a “strong association” with BCNA.
“Being able to work with organisations like BCNA is really important to me and my family,” he said.
“It’s worked out nicely that it goes alongside this day and I get to enjoy the golf while also raising awareness for an issue close to my heart.”
The course entrance was lined with pink lady silhouettes, a symbol of the more than 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
The annual golf event has brought celebrities and professionals together since it was first played in 1976, returning in 2022 after a 10 year hiatus.
Guthrie said he was looking forward to playing golf with current and former teammates and watching his idols tee off.
“I’m keen to get around the pro golfers and have a look at how they go about things as well,” he said.
Guthrie was joined by premiership teammate Brad Close, an avid golfer who sells merchandise and posts “relatable golf content” via his Instagram page @beclosegolf.
Comedian Andy Lee was also among those swinging for glory in Portsea on Saturday, while professional golfers including David Micheluzzi, Todd Sinnott, and Marcus Fraser played for a prize pool of $40,000.
Carlton’s Jack Silvagni and Elijah Hollands, and Essendon’s Kyle Langford, Darcy Parish and Sam Durham were also in attendance.
