One of the favourites at the Ash Medal is out of the running after Geelong Amateur superstar Tom Gribble accepted a two-match suspension.
The two-time Liston Trophy winner was offered a three-match ban for an incident involving Newcomb player Jarrad Duncan in the opening quarter of the Ammos’ tight win over the Power.
It was ruled by the AFL Barwon match review as high impact, intentional conduct and contact to the body.
The former Werribee gun accepted a two-week ban with a guilty plea.
Gribble is averaging 17 disposals this season and has been named in the best in four of his seven matches for the Ammos.
Elsewhere, St Albans youngster Joe Osborne bizarrely copped two suspensions in the same game for dangerous tackles against Grovedale.
Both tackles — on Sam Adams in the third quarter and Sam Walker in the final term — were judged as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.
Osborne has accepted a guilty plea for both incidents that concussed Adams and Walker, meaning he will spend four weeks on the sidelines.
The Grovedaale pair will be unavailable for selection for the next three weeks under the AFL’s concussion guidelines.
Meanwhile, ex-Essendon and GWS star Devon Smith has had his one-match ban for a dangerous tackle lowered to a reprimand after he entered an early guilty plea.
The Lara playing co-coach was cited for a tackle on Colac ball-winner Jarryn McCormack.
Geelong West player Frazer Robb accepted a one match suspension with a guilty plea for rough conduct on Newtown & Chillwell midfield Joe McDonald.
