The nervous wait is finally over for all Geelong’s year 12s as International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program students receive their final results, revealing the 2024 duxes at Kardinia International College and Geelong Grammar.
Less than a week after year 12 VCE students received their ATARs, Geelong’s IB students were on Tuesday given their final score out of 45 – equivalent to a perfect 99.95 ATAR.
At Kardinia, Ezann Tan was the highest achiever among the school’s 44 IB students, registering a score of 44, equating to an ATAR of 99.5.
IB dux Ezann’s ATAR of 99.5 puts her just behind the school’s overall dux, Ruhan Cai, who received an ATAR of 99.85.
Kardinia’s other top IB performers included Freddie Tobane with a score of 43, converting to an ATAR of 98.9, and Asher Lowery with a score of 42 and an ATAR of 98.55.
Principal Catherine Lockhart said she was delighted with the entire cohort’s results.
She said a third of the college’s IB students received an ATAR above 95 and the median score of 35 equated to an ATAR of 90.65.
“This is on top of the excellent results our year 12 VCE students received last week,” she said.
“In addition to all the wonderful co-curricular and community service accomplishments during the year, our IB students have again produced another strong set of academic results.”
The specialised diploma program is available at just three Geelong schools: Geelong Grammar, Kardinia International College and Sacred Heart, but the latter doesn’t run the program in year 12.
A Grammar spokesman said the school’s cohort of 58 IB students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, achieving a median IB score of 35, with 11 students scoring above 40.
Students Dylan Jupp and Cindy Xu each achieved an IB score of 42 and are the school’s top IB performers at the time of writing.
All scores are provisional and subject to the IB’s enquiry upon results process that allows an assessment review if a student believes their final grades do not accurately reflect their performance.
At the time of writing, Geelong Grammar’s top year 12 performer was Charlie Cook, who achieved an ATAR of 99.1.
IB students are required to participate in three core components: a theory of knowledge course to develop critical thinking skills, writing a 4000-word research essay, and “CAS” – a creativity, physical activity and community service program.
