Detectives release CCTV as investigations continue into Norlane hit-run fatal

The family of Bryce Trower says they endured “sleepless nights” after the 31-year-old was allegedly mowed down while riding an e-scooter in Norlane late last year.

Standing shoulder to shoulder in the rain outside Corio Police Station on Friday, Bryce’s parents and siblings urged those behind the fatal hit-run to “do the right thing” and turn themselves in.

Bryce’s sister, Pauline Trower, broke down into tears as she reflected on how hard the past five months had been for her family following her brother’s death.

“We lost a brother and a son that day and our parents shouldn’t have buried him … out of respect for our family, for Bryce, we just want peace,” she said.

An emotional Kyran Trower, Bryce’s brother, said he had been “destroyed” following his older brother’s death, waiting for someone to come forward and claim responsibility.

“We can’t keep living like this, we just want answers,” Kyran said.

He said Bryce was a “kind hearted” man who cared deeply for his family and friends, well known by many in Geelong.

Bryce had left home to go meet a friend at about 6.40pm on December 12.

On Friday, police released CCTV footage of Bryce riding an e-scooter along Foster St before he was hit and killed by a black 2007 Holden Rodeo.

Detective Senior-Sergeant Paul Lineham said he understood those behind the collision may have panicked, but the time to turn themselves in had come and gone.

“This is an active hit-run collision so detectives from Major Collisions Investigations Unit are now investigating,” he said.

Family of Norlane hit-run victim speak out

He said a witness had come forward to issue a statement and the car involved in the incident was eventually found at an address in Whittington.

“We believe that there are members of the Greater Geelong community who have intimate knowledge of that collision, they know the movements of the car after the collision and we wish them to come forward and speak to police,” he said.

Two people were in the car at the time, one is believed to be a man who was wearing a white T-shirt at the time of the collision.

The registered owner of the utility has spoken with detectives and is not believed to have been in possession of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has CCTV or dashcam footage, or any other information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
