A South Geelong woman says she was shocked to see her caravan destroyed by fire on a quiet street overnight.
Three Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to the blaze on Balliang St about 11.20pm on Friday, and police are investigating.
Tracy Hedley, the owner of the caravan which was parked in the street, said she didn’t lose much in the fire, but was shocked to see it go up in flames on a quiet evening at home.
“Just a few camping bits and pieces (were) in there … it could have been a lot worse,” she said.
“You never expect to see a fire on a quiet, peaceful street.”
Ms Hedley said the caravan wasn’t connected to gas or electricity, and the old disconnected gas bottle that was in there hadn’t exploded in the flames.
She said police had told her they thought someone might have climbed into the caravan and set it alight, but she didn’t think it was any sort or targeted attack.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the exact circumstances of the fire were yet to be determined and the investigation remained ongoing.
A FRV spokeswoman said firefighters arrived at the scene at 11.18pm to find the caravan fully alight.
“Thankfully, nobody was inside the caravan,” she said.
Crews quickly attacked the fire, bringing it under control within minutes of arrival.
The FRV spokeswoman said firefighters then handed the scene to Victoria Police to investigate.
