Barwon Heads singer Maz Green will star on The Voice after a battle with anxiety triggered by a traumatising car crash.

The 26-year-old disability support worker was in a car crash early last year on the Bellarine Peninsula.

She said while she waited to turn into a driveway, a car smashed into her at a high speed.

“That was really, really scary, I’m thankful to be here right now,” she said.

She said she suffered headaches and shock that morphed into anxiety.

Green said she developed tightness of the jaw, and when she would sing, it would lock.

“I wasn’t sure The Voice was the right timing, but with some coaching from my fiance and friends they pushed me through it all and I decided to go ahead and do it,” she said.

Green was inspired to work in disability support by her aunt who has Down syndrome.

Green’s aunt is her biggest fan, supporting her side of the stage, and providing comfort as she battles her nerves.

This year contestants on The Voice will attempt to wow judges Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy in the blind auditions.

Green said she was “really nervous”.

“Overcoming stage fright can be quite daunting,” she said.

Green is originally from Melbourne but moved to the Bellarine Peninsula about six years ago.

“Now that we’re down here I don’t think we could ever move back, it’s way too nice and peaceful,” Green said.

The new season of The Voice premieres at 7pm on Channel 7 on Sunday.
