Autumn regional rail work blitz set to affect Geelong commuters

More train pain for commuters as “vital” works set to disrupt the Geelong line for two separate weeks in autumn.

Geelong will have its train services disrupted for two separate weeks in autumn, as the state government announces a regional rail work blitz.

Significant infrastructure upgrades will be taking place across the state, including works continuing on the South Geelong to Waurn Pods duplication and Stage 2 of the Warrnambool line upgrade.

These works will cause two separate weeks of disruptions, April 13 to 21 and May 11 to 19.

During these periods, V/Line crews will also carry out maintenance and infrastructure improvements in and around the rail tunnel that runs between South Geelong and Geelong stations.

Minister for transport infrastructure Danny Pearson said the work blitz was necessary.

“We are getting on with delivering vital infrastructure that will better connect regional Victoria with modern and more reliable transport,” Mr Pearson said.

“These critical works will help deliver more trains, more often across regional Victoria.”

The minister for public and active transport Gabrielle Williams said “we thank passengers for their patience as we get on with delivering these works that will improve the way regional Victorians travel.”

Passengers planning to travel during these disruptions should allow up to 60 minutes extra for their journey and check the temporary coach replacement timetable before travelling, which will be available from the V/Line and PTV websites closer to the start of works.

It comes as works continue across Geelong to improve infrastructure.

South Geelong and Marshall stations are both seeing major upgrades, while works in Grovedale also continue.
