More alleged victims of a Geelong doctor found guilty of sexually assaulting patients have come forward, a law firm says.

A County Court jury found Shafiul Anam Milky sexually assaulted or raped five victims at Peninsula Family Medical Practice in Ocean Grove between 2012 and 2018, and a sixth patient at her Norlane home while working for an in-home service in 2019.

The clinic where the rapist doctor worked was alerted to his conduct in 2012, the court heard, but he went on to assault more women there.

In the days after the first victim was assaulted in September 2012, she returned to the clinic and informed the nurse who had seen her for a breast examination before her appointment with Milky.

Another general practitioner at the clinic spoke to Milky about the complaints but Milky denied the assault, the court heard.

The court heard the victim also reported the incident to authorities.

Law firm Arnold Thomas and Becker said it had been approached five more women, before and during the trial, who alleged sexual assault while attending Peninsula Family Medical Practice in Ocean Grove.

The women advised that, as recently as 2019, Milky allegedly inappropriately touched them under the guise of performing legitimate procedures.

It’s understood they have not approached police.

Principal lawyer Jodie Harris said the firm was concerned about how long Dr Milky may have been abusing patients, and that the medical practice he worked at had not done enough to protect female patients.

“Further investigations could reveal that the Ocean Grove Peninsula Family Medical Practice was aware of what had happened and did not take sufficient steps to investigate or expose the abuse,” she said.

Ms Harris said Arnold Thomas and Becker’s investigations would seek to establish whether the clinic had received sex abuse complaints and the steps it took in response.

She urged anyone with information to come forward.

“The criminal charges laid on Dr Milky are one component of achieving justice – financial compensation is also available to those affected,” she said.

“This could be used to access further medical services and psychological support, to recover lost income and expenses and provides an important step towards recovery.”

In June, 2019 the Geelong Advertiser revealed Milky was banned from treating female patients by the medical watchdog, and could not undertake home visits under the conditions.

He was sacked from Peninsula Family Medical Practice within months and later had his registration suspended.

The guilty verdict was handed down on Monday and Milky will be sentenced at a later date.

The Addy attempted to obtain comment from Peninsula Family Medical Practice and a lawyer who has represented Milky.
