Commuters on the Geelong line were struck by delays on Monday morning after planned works ran late.
V/Line released a statement on Monday informing passengers of delays of up to 90 minutes on the Geelong and Ballarat lines.
Nine services on the Geelong line between 7am and 9am were cancelled, with at least another 10 delayed significantly.
More cancellations were expected throughout the morning, as V/Line works to recover the timetable.
According to the V/Line website these delays were ongoing as of 8.30am, with delays of more an hour being experienced by commuters.
A V/Line spokesman said: “We ask passengers to check station platform displays and the V/Line website, listen for announcements and allow extra time for their journey”.
“There are delays of up to 90 minutes for V/Line passengers on the Geelong and Ballarat lines this morning, following a late finish of planned works.
“Transport Victoria and V/Line thank passengers for their patience during this disruption.”
Due to the maintenance program, evening trains on the Geelong line are being replaced by coaches.
The works started Sunday night and will continue through to Tuesday evening.
Late night travellers are being told to allow for an extra 40-minutes of travel time.
