Geelong brand SE7EN run $10,000 giveaway stunt at St Joseph’s College

Students at a well-known Geelong high school were sent into a frenzy after a fashion label performed a marketing stunt — and the founders say there is more to come.

Giveaway stunt sends school into frenzy

A Geelong based streetwear company has loaded St Joseph’s students up with $10,000 worth of free clothing in a surprise giveaway last week.

At 12.40pm on Friday, members of clothing brand SE7EN arrived outside the school’s year nine campus to hand out their merchandise.

The location was chosen for the pop-up after it was heavily requested on the group’s Instagram page.

The event was not organised through the school.

However, it isn’t a one-off — SE7EN co-founder Cayden Quick said he intended to do more giveaways at other Geelong schools in the “next few weeks.”

And the demand is there, with comments on a TikTok post of the giveaway asking the brand to come to schools like Iona College, Belmont High, Western Heights, Surf Coast Secondary, and more.

Next time, their entrance could be a lot louder.

“We want to get a helicopter down … if someone is happy to let us fly in we will do it,” Mr Quick said.

“It’s never been about the money … I’m happy to spend whatever to create a cool experience, especially in our hometown.”

“If we can do something that people remember then that’s made my week.”

Aside from looking for ways to up the company’s guerrilla marketing game, Mr Quick said the stunt at St Joseph’s was a way for SE7EN to give back to a demographic that “supports” them.

“I knew I wanted to go where a younger audience was … when I was 14 and 15 I wore the same clothes so I knew they’d appreciate it,” Mr Quick said.

“Seeing people care about us means everything … you always have to give back to the people that help you get where you are.”

Co-founder Tyler Jones said he was taken aback by the reaction.

“We thought it’d be a decent turnout but it was hard to scope how many kids would actually be there and it was more than what we imagined,” he said.

Mr Jones said the exclusivity of the products was the reason for the “hectic” turnout.

“Almost 90 per cent of our stuff sells out in the first half an hour.”

The brand, which started back in May 2019, has previously had stalls at popular music festivals Beyond The Valley and Pitch.
